Rewarding Science Fiction Recommendations
The idea of the page is to have a collection of reviews (or summaries) for a variety of science fiction titles. Novels, short stories, ect. that can be searched through by categories via a form. The form (on a seprate page) then presents results (book recommendations) biased on the search criteria the visitor selected.
The form itself would be a way of people telling me what they are wanting to read, or at least what interests them in a story. Is the main character young, old, male, female? Is the story set in the far distant future or just a decade ahead? Is it post apocalyptic, dystopian, or utopian? Does the visitor have a favorite author that they are looking for more titles from?
With the collection of reviews at hand I put them into categories, sort them biased on a variety of factors. Then when I have visitors to the site they can choose to fill out the submission form.
This form collects data on what they are looking for in a new book to read. Not all of the different parts of the form need to be filled out, but the more information I am given the better I can suggest a book.
Now, it won’t be perfect, there is the chance that the form will return suggestions that the visitor has already read.
So to compensate for this I would set up the form to give at least five suggestions per query. And the visitor can always re-submit a new form with more, less or different information to get different results.
Author
Decade written
Far Future
Near Future

Utopian
First Person view point
Third Person view point
Centers around one main character
Story has many central characters

With these factors and others I would narrow down a selection of stories for the visitor to choose from or to just browse through.
The results would be delivered to the visitor on a different page. Ideally this page would give links to the book reviews for each title suggested to the visior. This is till in the works though.
